WACO, Texas – The Texas Longhorns fell behind early and were not able to play catch-up in a 16-5 loss to the No. 7 Baylor Bears in Big 12 Conference baseball action on Thursday night at Baylor Ballpark.

The Bears pounced on the Longhorns for three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Nathan Orf capped off a 10-pitch at-bat with a single up the middle to lead off the inning. With one out, three consecutive RBI doubles by Josh Ludy, Logan Vick and Dan Evatt gave Baylor a 3-0 advantage.

Baylor (41-11, 19-3 Big 12) tacked on another run in the home half of the second. Adam Toth reached first to lead off the frame when Texas starter Dillon Peters mishandled a bunt back to the mound for an error. Orf finished off another 10-pitch at-bat with a double down the leftfield line to put two runners in scoring position. With two outs, Nathan Thornhill relieved Peters and uncorked a wild pitch allowing DalPorto to score for the 4-0 advantage.

The Bears inflated the cushion to 5-0 in the fourth inning. Toth and DalPorto sparked the rally with back-to-back singles up the middle. A wild pitch put both runners in scoring position. After Orf was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Muncy plated Toth with a sacrifice fly to leftfield.

Texas (29-19 13-9 Big 12) broke the scoring seal in the top of the sixth inning. With two outs, Erich Weiss drew a four-pitch walk and Jonathan Walsh deposited a first-pitch offering over the leftfield fence for a home run, cutting the Baylor lead to 5-2.

Baylor created separation, scoring seven runs in the sixth inning to take a 12-2 lead. The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run by Max Muncy and a two-run double by Jake Miller.

The Bears added four more runs in the seventh with two-run singles by Miller and pinch-hitter Wes Mercurio to take a 16-2 lead.

Walsh hit another two-run home run in the eighth inning and Tim Maitland knocked in a run with a groundout in the ninth to cap the scoring.
