AUSTIN, Texas – Sophomore Corey Knebel pitched a seven-inning one-hitter in his first collegiate start to lead the Texas Longhorns in a 3-0 win over the Texas Southern Tigers at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Saturday afternoon.

Knebel (4-3), who had made 62 relief appearances prior to the start, earned the victory, allowing no runs, only one hit and one walk while striking out six in 7.0 scoreless innings. He had a total of 79 pitches, including 53 strikes.

The Longhorns drew first blood with a leadoff home run by sophomore Mark Payton in the first inning, his fourth home run of the season.

Texas cushioned the lead with two more runs in the fourth. Sophomore Erich Weiss drew a lead-off walk, stole second base. Jonathan Walsh drew a walk and Jacob Felts singled to rightfield to load the bases. A sacrifice fly by Alex Silver plated Weiss and after Walsh stole third base, Jordan Etier drove him home with a single through the left side of the infield.

Abel Flores (2-5) received the loss allowing one run on one hit, one walk while striking out one over 2.0 innings. Tiger Denzel Pipkin relieved Flores to start the third inning, permitting two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three over 4.0 innings.

Longhorns racked up four stolen bases for the game with two by Walsh making him 10-for-10 in stolen bases this season. Felts led all players with two hits.
