Texas in Conference Tournaments
Texas holds a 41-34 (.547) all-time record in league tournament games, including a 20-15 (.571) mark in its previous 15 trips to the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship. In 13 appearances during the Rick Barnes era, UT has posted an 18-13 (.581) mark in the Big 12 Championship. Texas has reached the finals of its league postseason tourney 11 times in the last 21 years, including five times in the Southwest Conference (1991, 1992, 1994, 1995 and 1996) and six times in the Big 12 (2001, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2011). UT has claimed two conference postseason tourney titles, both coming during its time in the SWC (1994 and 1995).

Success in the Big 12 Championship
The Horns have reached at least the semifinal round in 11 of their first 15 appearances in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship, including 10 of their first 13 trips under Rick Barnes. The Longhorns have advanced to the title game of the Big 12 Championship in five of the last eight years (2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2011).

Series vs. Iowa State
Thursday’s contest marks the 24th meeting between Texas and Iowa State. UT owns a 14-9 advantage in the all-time series which dates back to a 101-87 Iowa State win in Phoenix on Dec. 21, 1966. Texas has won eight of the last nine and is 12-4 against the Cyclones during the Rick Barnes era entering Thursday’s game. UT holds a 1-0 lead in games played at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship, posting an 82-75 win in the 2010 opening round in Kansas City. The two teams split their two meetings during the regular season. Iowa State recorded a 77-71 victory in Ames to open Big 12 play on Jan. 4. Texas returned the favor with a 62-55 win in Austin on Jan. 24.

Kansas Game Notes
 UT recorded a 20-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
 Kansas converted 15-of-24 (.625) from the floor in the final 20 minutes, while the Horns hit just 12-of-31 (.387) field goals in the second half.
 J’Covan Brown (33 points) topped the 30-point mark for the fourth time this year and in his career (100 games). Brown topped the 20-point mark for the 17th time this year and 25th time in his career. He reached double figures in points for the 29th time this year and 62nd time in his career.
 J’Covan Brown posted 29 of his 33 points in the second half. This set a UT record for most points in a half during a Big 12 game (topping previous mark set by Kevin Durant in second half vs. Baylor on Jan. 27, 2007; and matched by Brown in second half vs. Kansas on Feb. 8, 2010). The 29 points also tied for the second-most points in a half in UT history (record is 33 by Jim Krivacs in second half vs. Northern Montana on Nov. 27, 1978).
 J’Covan Brown set a career high in free throws made (14-of-15). He went 12-of-13 from the line in the second half. This tied a UT record for most free throws made in a half during a Big 12 game (matching the mark set by T.J. Ford in the second half at Oklahoma State on Feb. 22, 2003). It also tied for the second-most free throws made in a half in UT history (record is 14 by Joey Wright in second half vs. Rice on Jan. 27, 1990).
 Myck Kabongo recorded six assists against three turnovers, marking the 18th time this year that he has posted at least five assists.
 Clint Chapman (10 points) reached double figures in points for the seventh time this season and in his career (114 games). All seven of his double-digit scoring efforts came in Big 12 play.
 Alexis Wangmene suffered a left wrist injury at the 19:02 mark of the second half and did not return. Wangmene limited Thomas Robinson to just seven points on 3-of-10 FG in the first half.
 
What’s the Difference?
In UT’s nine Big 12 Conference wins, the Horns have held their opponents to an average of 59.2 ppg on a combined 41.0% FG shooting. In Texas’ nine league losses, the Horns have allowed an average of 77.4 ppg on a combined 47.8% FG shooting. In the nine wins, UT is a combined 185-of-253 (.731) from the free throw line while its opponents are just 97-of-146 (.664). During the nine losses, the Horns are 147-of-193 (.762) from the stripe while their opponents are 195-of-280 (.696).

Looking for 20 Wins, Again
UT enters the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship with a 19-12 record. With a win in Thursday’s quarterfinal round, the Longhorns would reach the 20-win mark for the 13th straight year. Texas has reached the 30-win plateau twice in the previous six years (31-7 record in 2007-08, 30-7 mark in 2005-06). UT’s current streak of 12 straight 20-win campaigns is a school record. Prior to the current streak, the previous school mark for most consecutive 20-win seasons was four (1988-89 to 1991-92). The Horns have reached the 20-win plateau in all but one of Rick Barnes’ seasons in Austin. The Horns posted a 19-13 mark in 1998-99 and won the Big 12 Conference title.

Success from the Stripe
The Horns have converted 73.3% (563-of-768) of their free throw attempts this season. The highest FT percentage team at Texas in the Rick Barnes era came during the 2006-07 season (73.6%).
 Texas converted 74.4% (332-of-446) from the stripe during its 18 Big 12 Conference contests this year.

What Can Brown Do For You?
Junior guard J’Covan Brown has played in 100 career games (40 starts). An All-Big 12 First Team selection, Brown leads the Big 12 Conference in scoring (20.0 ppg) and also leads the team in steals (40) and minutes (35.3 mpg) and ranks second in assists (3.8 apg). He has converted 42.0% (202-of-481) of his field goal attempts, including a 75-of-200 (.375) mark from three-point range. Brown has recorded 30-plus points four times this year, topped the 20-point mark 17 times and reached double figures in scoring in 29 of the first 31 games.

Brown’s Big Night at Kansas
J’Covan Brown had another outstanding performance during the loss at No. 3/4 Kansas (March 3). Brown tallied 33 points while converting 9-of-18 field goals and 14-of-15 free throws and added five rebounds and three assists.

Kabongo Takes the Point
Myck Kabongo leads the team in assists (5.3 apg), ranks second in steals (38) and is third in scoring (9.8 ppg) this season. He has recorded at least five assists in 18 of the first 31 games this year. Kabongo also has reached double figures in scoring in 18 of the first 31 contests this season.
