The Cedar Hill Longhorns (12-2 in 2008) once again are favored to win the 7-5A district title and are looking to improve on their state quarterfinal appearance last year. The Longhorns are stacked with Big 12-level prospects including Texas commitment Aaron Benson. The linebacker spoke with Burnt Orange Beat about his preparations for his senior year.
Aaron Benson remembers his freshman season well as he started five games for the 5A state champions. Now, as Benson looks to his senior season, he wants to earn another ring. To that end, Benson has been working hard this summer to prepare.
“I have been working out every morning at school,’ Benson told Burnt Orange Beat last week.
Additionally, the Cedar Hill Longhorns have been working out to prepare for the state 7 on 7 tournament in July. Benson said last Friday, “We have not qualified yet for the state tournament, but we have a couple more tournaments to qualify. We have been practicing but are just now starting to play in tournaments.” The next day, Benson and his Cedar Hill teammates qualified for the state tournament at the Mesquite tournament.
Cedar Hill is also going to play at Arlington Bowie on June 27 to further prepare for the state tournament in July. In addition to his daily morning workouts and his seven on seven practices,
Benson squeezed in a trip down to Austin to work out with many of his future Texas Longhorn commitments and his future position coach. “I worked out with my position coach, Coach Muschamp. I also worked out with (Texas commitment) Tevin Jackson and Aaron Franklin. I think he is from Marshall. He’s pretty good.”
Cedar Hill also has several other prospects that are committed to play in the Big 12 in running back Ben Molina (Texas A&M) and offensive guard Adam Shead (Oklahoma). Junior-to-be quarterback Driphus Jackson, defensive end Xavier Warren, and wide receiver Lovett Gibson will also be recruited highly.
Once Benson arrives in Austin, he will join fellow Cedar Hill alums OT Thomas Ashcraft and DT Jarvis Humphrey.
