Man Who Allegedly Bit Finger Off Golfer Appears In Court

BROCKTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- A brawl at a golf course lands one man in court. The suspect is accused of biting off part of another man's finger,  

Derek Harkins of Brockton, MA appeared inside Plymouth District Court Monday to answer to charges of assault and battery, Mayhem, and disturbing the peace. 


Police say two foursomes were on the 18th hole, at Southers Marsh Golf Club on Friday when the brawl started. According to Prosecutors, Harkins' and his group were upset that group ahead of them was playing too slow. They confronted the group & a fight broke out.

It was then Harkins allegedly chomped off another's golfers finger, down to the knuckle.Witnesses say Harkins smelled of alcohol & was acting like madman when he attacked victim.

The victim is a 57 year old man from Marshfield, MA is not being identified. The man was transported to an area hospital, but doctors were not able to reattach the finger. 

Harkins is free on bail and has been ordered to stay away from the victim and alcohol.
