Joey Chestnut Breaks His Own Record At The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest

Joey Chestnut broke his own world record, wolfing down an astonishing 75 hot dogs and buns in just ten minutes to win the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest for the fifth straight year. Chestnut set the previous record of 74 in 2018.

This year's contest was a bit different due to COVID-19. Instead of being held outdoors on the world-famous Coney Island boardwalk in front a large crowd, the event was held indoors and limited to just five competitors.

"It was hard," Chestnut told ESPN after his victory. "I knew I was fast in the beginning. It was like blistering speed. And the dogs were cooked really well today. Minute six is where I really missed the crowd ... and I hit a wall, and it took me a little bit more work to get through it. This is a crazy year, and I'm happy I was able to get a record."

Darron Breeden finished in a distant second, eating 42 hot dogs and buns.

Miki Sudo set a world record of her own, eating 48.5 hot dogs and buns to win her seventh consecutive Mustard Yellow Belt in the women's event.
