Chris Broussard Calls Out Gilbert Arenas For Trashing 1980's NBA Players

Gilbert Arenas: “80s basketball, it was ‘tougher’, right? Shut up, let it go. Eighties cannot compete with 90s, 2000s, and now. It is a pointless argument. Bill Laimbeer cannot play basketball today. His defense does not work today. The things that you guys are glorifying, which is hard fouls— Not better defense, HARD FOULS. If you look at the people that are brutally hurting people, they were not All-Defensive players. A defensive player is playing within the rules, stopping you.”

Rob Parker: “It’s total nonsense. Actually, Bill Laimbeer was fine on the three-point line and could shoot out there. Just the whole notion of ‘it was rough and tumble, and nobody had skill…’, and now they don’t even play defense. It’s easier to score now than ever before. There’s nobody in the paint, there’s no fouls to worry about. It’s way easier to play. This is a tired and old argument, it’s one of those prisoner of the moment ‘everything that happened yesterday is the best thing to ever happen!’... How could you say that? You don’t think Michael Jordan could play today?? Can we change his name to ‘Willis’ so we can say ‘WATCHU TALKIN’ ‘BOUT, WILLIS?’"

Chris Broussard: “Gilbert Arenas doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Gilbert Arenas is proof that just because you were a great basketball player doesn’t mean that you know what you’re talking about, especially when it comes to the NBA— at least with the history of the game. It is unbelievable that he said that. First of all, Bill Laimbeer never made an All-Defensive team. So THAT’S your example? That’s who you’re holding up as the beacon of 1980s defense? He was known as a ‘thug’, he was known as an ‘enforcer.’ He was skilled in terms of shooting but part of the reason why he was out there was because he was tough. Same thing with Rick Mahorn. First of all, you don’t know what you’re talking about in that regard, Gilbert, secondly, he said the 80s players ‘could not play’ with the guys in the 90s, the 00s, and today. Here is the proof that Gilbert Arenas is off his rocker— Michael Jordan dominated the 90s, but didn’t win a championship in the 80s. Michael Jordan entered the league in 1984, never won a championship in the 80s, dominated the 90s, but the 80s players that BEAT HIM couldn’t play in the 90s?? Shaq dominated the late 90s and early 2000s… In 1995 Shaq got ABUSED by Hakeem Olajuwon in the Finals, and Shaq will tell you that. Olajuwon, like Jordan, entered the league in 1984. Did he dominate the 80s? He never won a championship in the 80s. He got beat in the Finals by Larry Bird, Robert Parrish, and Kevin McHale. My point is THAT is proof that the teams and players in the 80s could play with the teams and players in the 90s and the early 2000s. I gave you examples of dudes in the 2000’s getting dominated in the 90s, and dudes from the 90s getting dominated in the 80s, so what are you talking about?? He points out Laimbeer because of the athleticism…. Athleticism is not the end all for basketball. Is Luka what we would call ‘athletic’? Luka can’t jump out of the gym and he OWNS the NBA. Nikola Jokic can’t get a foot off the ground and he is abusing these dudes that are athletic but don’t know how to play basketball. James Harden ain’t athletic and he dominated the NBA. This dude, Gilbert, is off his rocker. Robert Williams III is 6’9”, can’t shoot a lick, and he is wreaking havoc on today’s NBA.” (Full Segment Above)

Watch Chris Broussard and Rob Parker call out former NBA star turned podcaster Gilbert Arenas for his recent controversial take claiming that NBA players from the 80s would get dominated by players from ensuring eras including the 90s, 00s, and beyond, as Arenas continued his typical diatribes that disparages NBA players of the past.

Check out the segment above as both Broussard and Parker call Arenas’ take ‘nonsense’, and detail why Arenas ‘doesn’t know what he’s talking about.’
