Texas A&M athletic director Ross Bjork isn't crazy about the idea that UT may join the SEC. After a report surfaced in the Houston Chronicle about Texas and Oklahoma reaching out to the SEC to join the conference, Bjork said he will be "diligent in our approach to protect Texas A&M." Bjork wants the Aggies to be the only Texas team in the SEC. A&M left the Big 12 to join the conference in 2012.

Former Texas A&M president R. Bowen Loftin has indicated that if Texas and Oklahoma were to join the SEC it would break a "gentlemen's agreement" between SEC schools that gives members of the conference "absolute veto power" over the addition of other schools from their state. Loftin also said the unwritten rule was a "specific conversation" that was had when Texas A&M joined the SEC in 2011.
