Former South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback Connor Shaw broke his silence after collapsing while coaching his son's football team last week.
"Many things I am thankful for this evening, none more than this," Shaw wrote on his Instagram story along with a photo of himself wearing what appears to be a hospital nose breathing tube with his wife by his side.
Shaw, 33, was reportedly hospitalized at the Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital intensive care unit, a source confirmed to the State's Jackson Castellano. The former quarterback was reported to have fallen or passed out and taken away in an ambulance, according to various social media accounts.
Shaw played at South Carolina from 2010 to 2013 and is widely regarded as the greatest quarterback in program history, holding the record for most wins by a Gamecocks quarterback and having been elected to the South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021. The 33-year-old threw for 6,074 yards, 56 touchdowns and 16 interceptions, while also recording 1,683 yards and 17 touchdowns on 452 rushing attempts in 43 appearances.
Shaw signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2014, having been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster following injuries to then-fellow rookie Johnny Manziel and veteran Brian Hoyer. The former South Carolina standout started in his lone NFL appearance, a 20-10 loss to the AFC North Division rival Baltimore Ravens, in the Browns' final game of the 2014 NFL season, throwing for 177 yards and one interception on 14 of 28 passing.
